Elephant Sanctuary & Giant Baobab Tree

Tarangire Safari Tanzania

Tarangire National Park Overview

Welcome to a truly wild and striking landscape on your Tarangire Safari Tanzania. Often celebrated as the "Elephant Capital of the World," Tarangire National Park is a massive, diverse park famous for its rolling hills, towering baobab trees, and massive wildlife concentrations during the dry season. Booking a private Tanzania Safari Tour here with DMA Horizon Safaris guarantees an immersive, off-the-beaten-path adventure.

Tarangire Wildlife

Predators & Plains Game

A Tarangire wildlife safari offers thrilling predator sightings, including tree-climbing lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The park is also known for robust populations of wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, and impalas. Because the landscape is more heavily wooded than the Serengeti, tracking wildlife here is a deeply rewarding experience alongside our expert local guides.

Elephants & Baobab Trees

Park Signatures

The defining feature of any Tarangire National Park safari is the astonishing number of elephants. Herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen scratching the dry river beds for water or sheltering under the park's other signature feature: the ancient, giant Baobab trees. These massive "upside-down trees" dot the landscape, providing breathtaking photographic opportunities.

Ecosystem & Birdlife

The Lifeline

The Tarangire River

The Tarangire River is the primary source of fresh water in the region during the dry season. As surrounding areas dry up, massive migratory herds of plains game and predators flock to the riverbanks, creating a mini-migration and some of the best game viewing in East Africa.

Exceptional Birdlife

With over 500 recorded bird species, Tarangire is a haven for bird watchers. The park's swamps and woodlands host species ranging from the vibrant yellow-collared lovebird to massive Kori bustards and ostriches.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Tarangire is during the dry season, from June to October. During this period, the bush thins out and animals congregate in massive numbers along the Tarangire River. While the green season (November to May) sees animals disperse, it remains spectacularly lush, quiet, and perfect for birding.

How to Get There

Located just two hours by tarmac road from Arusha, Tarangire is incredibly accessible. It is the perfect first stop on a northern circuit itinerary before heading onwards to Ngorongoro or the Serengeti.

Safari Activities & Cost

Adventure Awaits

Safari Activities

Enjoy extensive game drives in our private 4x4 vehicles. In certain areas of the park, guided walking safaris and thrilling night game drives are also permitted, offering a completely different perspective of the African bush.

Tarangire Safari Cost

Because it is closer to Arusha and doesn't carry the crater descent fees of Ngorongoro, the Tarangire safari cost is highly attractive, making it a staple in both Luxury Safaris and highly affordable Budget Camping Safaris.

Tarangire vs Serengeti

While the Serengeti provides endless open plains, Tarangire offers a dramatic, undulating landscape studded with ancient baobabs and dense woodlands. Tarangire is generally quieter, offering a more intimate safari experience with some of the largest elephant herds on the continent.

Where to Stay

You can choose to stay deep inside the park in premium luxury tented camps that blend seamlessly with nature, or opt for excellent Mid-Range Safaris lodges and budget campsites located just outside the park gates for great value.
